The Do-It-Yourself Channel Jewelry Making Show "Nature's Wonders"
Project: Red Coral Necklace from the book, Fiber Wire Beads and Jewelry by Lisa Vann.
Before you can complete the red coral necklace that was demonstrated on that tv segment, you'll need to know how to make a "wiber".
A "wiber" is a combined strand of wire and fiber that is tightly twisted together. Most wibers are made by first cutting long, equal lengths of fiber and wire.
To make the three wibers that you'll need for the coral necklace, cut a four foot length of both 26 gauge wire and a multi-colored red/magenta fiber. Fold them together in half and then twist the ends of all wires together. Insert this end into a vice. This will leave you with approximately a 2 foot long loop of wire and fiber. Pull both of the loops taut and carefully twist them together using a hand drill with a cup hook in it. Continue twisting until the wiber feels very solid and workable. Repeat this process from the beginning for each of the two remaining wibers that you'll need. Refer to the following pictures:
