"Odyssey"

Larger than she appears, "Odyssey" measures approximately two feet all round. She was built both as an experiment as well as an exhibit piece to run simultaneously with the Alexander Calder jewelry exhibit.

Odyssey was so named because building her with only my hands, I had little pre-conceived idea about how she would evolve. Using a type of hand knitting technique based on making tiny loops as the basic structure, Odyssey was completed over a six month period. Originally prototyped in a looser weave, she needed to be re-built more tightly to allow for the various 3 D wire sections to stand upright. Odyssey is truly a feat of engineering.
